| Gingerbread Creation Guidelines
Thanks to your generosity, the Festival floor will be full of
designer trees, wreaths and a gingerbread village! These spectacular
items are the focal point of the Festival and we appreciate your
commitment as a designer.
The design of the gingerbread creation is the sole choice of
the designer, as long as it is appropriate for use in a home or
business. The Festival Committee encourages originality and as
a designer, you are encouraged to choose a theme and relevant
title for your gingerbread creation. Once you know the title of
your gingerbread creation, please complete and return the Designer
Description Form enclosed in this packet, to the NCUKD office.
You can fax it to 668-8907 or mail it in the self addressed envelope
enclosed. For printing purposes, all description forms need to
be turned into the NCUKD office by October 10. The title you provide
will be used for the program and signage displayed at the Festival.
Should you need help in choosing a title to compliment your theme,
Mary Beth Horton, 2005 Gingerbread Chair, will be happy to assist
you.
The following are guidelines for each Gingerbread entry:
- The base you use must be sturdy enough to transport the creation
into The Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and again to the purchaser’s
home. Sturdy base materials include: plywood, triple-ply cardboard,
sturdy plastic trays, or a cake base purchased from a hobby
store, etc. No flimsy meat trays or single-ply cardboard.
- No kits (i.e. ready-made walls and roofs), will be accepted,
as authenticity is important to this event. If you need a recipe
for sturdy gingerbread that resists moisture, or a pattern for
a house or other types of buildings, please contact Mary Beth.
- If your creation is larger than 18x18, needs electricity
or other special consideration, please let us know so that we
can make accommodations in order to display it at its best.
Set-up day is Thursday, November 17, 2005 beginning at 9:00am
at The Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. All gingerbread creations
are due to be delivered no later than 5:30pm. Special arrangements
for earlier acceptance can be arranged with Mary Beth if necessary.
A panel of Honorary Chairpersons will choose two (2) gingerbread
creations that will receive the Holly Festival of Trees award.
One (1) complimentary ticket to the Gala on Friday November
18th will be given to each designer regardless of how many creations
you submit. We appreciate the efforts of all the designers and
hope that they will be captivated by “Visions of Sugarplums” at
the Gala and Auction. Additional tickets to the Gala can be purchased
through the NCUKD office for $75, which includes heavy hors d’
oeuvres, dessert, open bar, and entertainment.
It is important to the Festival Committee that you have all
the information you need to make this event a memorable occasion.
Please feel free to call the NCUKD office at 668-7098
